Fun Nail Art Tutorial

Monday, July 26, 2010

Hola Goddesses!

I have a fun and easy nail art tutorial to share. I love the color coral for summer and Orly included this cream hue named Olé in their VIVA! Summer 2010 collection which I will be using as the base for this manicure.

Here are the products I will be using:

1. Give yourself a manicure by soaking your hands, pushing back your cuticles and filing and buffing your nails. I love the Orly French Polynesian Travel Kit For Hands. It smells delicious and makes my hands super soft. Make sure your nail beds are clean , dry and free of residue.

2. Prep your nail beds with ASP Prep N Clean Dehydrantto dehydrate your nail surface for maximum adhesion of the polish.

3. Apply Nail Life Gripper Basecoatto help the polish from chipping and to protect your nails from being stained.

4. Apply three, thin coats of Orly Olé or your favorite shade. Be sure to let each coat dry for a full 2 minutes to ensure there is no bubbling of the polish.

5. Using a So Easy Double Up Detailing/Dotting Nail Brushand acrylic craft paint, start at the bottom tip of the nail and make dots along the free edge and up the side of the nail. Then, using your second color, repeat the same process, this time placing the dot in between each dot of the previous color and let the design dry.

6 . Seal in your design and polish with a good top coat. I love to use Orly Won't Chip Polish Shieldwhich has a protective polymer that helps nail lacquer resist chipping and peeling . This is a great time to also moisturize your cuticles with Orly Cuticle Oil + which conditions cuticles to promote nail growth.

Here is the finished look:

Make-Up Haul at Victoria's Secret!

Sunday, June 27, 2010

Victoria ’s Secret had their Semi-Annual Sale last month! Yay! I got up at 7:30 am, hit up three different stores and totally made out like a bandit!

I picked up some Limited-edition Spring 2010 Mineral Eye Shadow Palettes and a Bronzer in Jungle Heat, Safari Chic and Wild Thing. They were originally $15 and I got them for a smoking $3.75! Yes, 75% off the original price! Love it!

I also scored this super gorgeous lip gloss with SPF 15 in Ravish. It was also 75% off at $2.75!

This PINK Face and Body Bronzer was also 75% off at $3.75.

I quickly snatched up these Beauty Rush Chubby Eye Sticks in Blue Zap, Bronzilliant (My Fav!) and Glampagne.

They also had something I haven’t seen before, a Heavenly Face Gilded Eye Pencil in Angel. I also picked up some VSX Body-Wick sports bras in fun colors for $9.99 each (originally $22) and stocked up on my signature scent Coconut Passion with their 5 for $30 sale.

Summer Hair Care

With the dry summer air and the sun beaming down on our tresses, it is very important to deep condition your hair at least once a week.

I love to mix my own, all natural deep conditioning mask using coconut oil, olive oil, avocado oil and shea butter. Scientists at the Textile Research have proven that Coconut Oil, Avocado Oil and Olive oil penetrate the hair shaft to make it stronger (Cosmet. Sci 52, 169-184, 2001) . The study showed straight chain glycerides like coconut oil , avocado oil and olive oil easily penetrate into the hair. I also like to add shea butter to my mask to help smooth frizziness.

Avocado oil contains essential nutrients like proteins, vitamins A, D, E and B6, magnesium, copper, iron, amino acids and folic acid, all of which are extremely essential for hair growth and nourishment. It is also known to have natural sunscreen properties that can protect the hair and scalp from the damage caused by the harmful UVA and UVB rays of the sun.

Coconut oil can nourish each hair strand by penetrating deep into the hair shaft. It adds shine and softness to hair follicles and prevents hair breakage and dryness. It also adds strength and vitality to hair and is known to have anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties.

Olive oil is rich in high levels of mono-unsaturated fatty acids and vitamin E. Both mono-unsaturated fatty acids and vitamin E are good for moisturizing, protecting and nourishing hair.

Shea butter can do wonders for hair that has been damaged by excessive coloring and blow-drying. Damaged and brittle hair can be conditioned and revitalized by its moisturizing properties as it soothes and softens dry hair.

I take equal parts of each ingredient, add a little cheapie conditioner, warm them in the microwave and mix them well in a bowl, then apply the mask to my hair from roots to ends and clip it up in a bun. I leave the mask on my hair overnight (or at least 4 hours) then shampoo twice followed by my normal conditioner. My hair is left soft, smooth and moisturized and ready for another week of styling! If you feel that your hair is weak and needs some protein, you can add one egg to the mixture.
